Going back to Cuba, I think so...

I'm going back to Cuba for Spring Break.  This time it's Cayo Coco.

Bobby & I attained a part time job for March Break for S-Trip, the place that Nelson works for. They do student trips for highschool & universities.  They are cool bunch of people at the office.
Joseph didn't get confirmed so I'm hoping he will within the week.  People tend to drop out, that's what Brett said.  The guy who hired us, he looks like the Flight of the Concords dude.  I can't look at him without wanting to call him Brett.

I think Bobby & I will be mates for the trip . I hope he packs earplugs, he knows I snore anyway.
Not much for me to do as I haven't really unpacked from the last trip which seemed so long ago.  This time I will watch my step and not get a concussion.  I've always made fun of Spring Break but now I'm part of it.   My tan is fading so this work trip is perfect.

AGO -free, Art'd - free, Job - not so much?

We rallied at the door of the AGO, one already drinking, one planning on drinking and the other two just contemplative.  What was beyond the doors in front of us? Will it be like the MOMA (both NYC & SF locations), the Guggenheim, the Louve?...

We waited in the gift shop which resembled the National Gallery of Canada slash Belkin Art Gallery for Lisa & Joseph.  Once we all met up, the inevitable "Are we all going to Art'd, free drinks after?" With the answer: Obvi.

Alas, our adventure as a group of 7 walked around and like the Group of Seven art, we were quickly bored.  We lost Lisa & Joseph was on the phone.  1st floor - pass.  17th Century Netherlands just wasn't my thing when I studied Art History in University.  As we past the ivory carved heads I thought I saw Bobby take a swig of his mickey.  This was a sign, move on!.

Bobby, Bart & myself proceeded to the 5th floor (We lost Nelson, he HAS a job & went to do it), Perf! Our scene, Contemporary.  A few photos quickly taken, a few security guards telling us not to take photos later and we were out.

The art collections were ok.  We are fortunate, being cultured art lovers we have been to many galleries in our time.  The AGO has a bit of art, just not our style.  It's good to go on a Wednesday night 6-8:30, it's free.  You can take a quickly look and perhaps go back a better look.  Take advantage of all of the free art shows in Toronto, we are very lucky to have them.

We quickly rallied outside and planned our route, Joseph, Lisa, Bobby & Justin - LCBO.  Bart & Jen, grab Nelson & meet at Czehoskis.  Drink tickets and a photography exhibit later, it looks like Bobby and I are going away...for WORK.

Dominican in 2 weeks!! (crosses fingers)

Unemployed?

As we all know, words often have multiple meanings and are called homographs when they do. I currently occupy a state of being unemployed that may not be so obvious at first but reveals itself quickly with a little interrogation. To many it is a state that is desired and sought after. Maintaining it means strict discipline and avoiding the clingy needs of others while you put your best foot forward and keep moving - normally walking requires the use of both feet so I'll just assume that they share the rights to being dubbed the "best foot." To many others it is a pitfall of despair that has the ability to result in extreme degrees of self-mutilation of varying physical and mental forms. Of course, "extreme" was made taboo in the early 2000's so we'll just agree that it's a state where you can come down on yourself pretty hard. And still to others, to a select few, it is a state where comfort with yourself and those close to you is achieved after careful consideration for your levels of happiness. Think.. what makes you happy.. I know.. it can be tough.

And so I am again unemployed and find myself drifting through it's many states, leaning towards some and gladly discarding others.

Now where the hell did that strip of bacon go..

Lazy Sunday...Oh wait, it's Monday

Sigh, it's hard to keep track of days when it doesn't matter.
Bobby is in Montreal for the weekend & I just got back from Mexico.
Way too lazy to do an entry but I thought I'd update saying "Hey".

Will update tomorrow when I'm back from my hot stone massage.
Ugh, it's been 3 weeks since my last one.  Can you believe it?

Really...

I awoke at 7am today, a sudden change of routine.  I found myself in line with common people, all dirty looking compared to myself at the passport office.  Task 1 - complete.  I can get on the plane tomorrow.

Task 2 - go to Castlemore to house sit.  I was asked as I have time during the day and I was promised lunch.  mmm, I get to eat today.  As I played the baby grand piano in the empty home, I thought to myself as I looked our the window towards the tennis court "this drifting snow is like the pieces of my unemployed fabulous heart, the more I'm still the more I lose myself, so I squander my self loathing attributes to a mansion to eat the finest food offered to me, meh...is this all that life has to offer?."  I took two naps, walking back and forth in a large area was tiring.  As soon as my aunt got home, she had choices for me for lunch...hhmmm, I don't have to eat dinner tonight I thought to myself....she tried to pay me for my stay and also gave me an 18 caret gold ring.

RRRREEEAAAALLLYYYY..........

The ring is gorge on me, perf for Mexico.

Task 3 - grab a video camera, check.  Fresh out of the box, I'l be great to shoot some footy during my vaca.
Task 4 - haircut.  My friend Mira hooked me up & did a great job.  If you need someone to cut & style your hair, she's the gal to go too.

What next? It's 8:30pm and I'm repacking...I have to pack things to match my newly acquired ring.....

Oh yah, I've hired a driver.  Brand new car too.  It's sporty & Stormtrooped.  I will arrive and depart in style.

RRRREEEAAAALLLLYYYY!!!

What to do tomorrow? Lunch before my driver drops me off to YYZ? Why not?

Breckie

Ughhh -
Woke up at 11:30today.

Hungover: CHECK

Still Poor: CHECK

wow - nothing has changed except the only piece of food I have has expired: some flat bread.

But my stomach is grumbling, I will save my Tim Horton's $5 gift card for dinner so I'll have the expired bread with butter for breckie.

What will I do today? Where will I go? What opportunity will fall onto my lap?

Keep posted!

Midweek Hump

I awoke to a call this morning from Cameron, my voice raspy, exhausted.  He was on his way to visit.  I glance at the clock 9:30am (opps, I have an interview at 10).  I was trying to sleep in too! The life of an RBC DS broker, he was up at 6am.  Who does that? 6am?

Last night was highly eventful perhaps that is why I'm so tired. I ended up hemming pants for Jamie, which got me 2 junior mint patties (come to think of it, I should of grabbed a couple for the road, they are so refreshing), a bottle of Vex (pink lemonade) & a tall glass of water sans lemon. I lucked out.  I'm sure if I was actually hungry he could of made me something but I was focused on working for 2 hours.

Anyway, Cam was discussing things and I was listening but also facebooking & trying to figure out what to do today....should I go to the AGO?, did Bart go snowboarding? is Bobby awake? what did he do last night, American Idol was on, did he watch it?.  It suddenly occurred to me as my stomach rumbled, that I was hungry.

In my finest pj attire (Lululemon yoga pants, Roxy hoody & custom Obey tank) we headed over to the restaurant for a lavish full course Filipino lunch, gratis of course.  Not before I almost slammed into a Toyota and Cam almost slamming into me.  He was laughing as it reminded him of our antics in Cuba, I yawned it off.  "Ugh, that is why I need a driver"  I thought to myself, I bet Jamie would drive me if he wasn't working & going to school (wow, he is busy).

I'm back in my warm comfy bed.  Going to take a siesta then head over to the mall, I now want to purchase denim (to hem of course).  After that, who knows.  I guess I'll pack for my vacation to Mexico. Only 2 days away.

Should I buy Hawaiian Tropic so I come back more tanned? Clinique Sunblock, is it as good as they say? Coco Chanel Mademoiselle, will the scent smell good hot weather or should I purchase Paris Hilton's new fragrance? Ugh, I better make a list of what to buy, I don't think I need a new pair of boots or do I?

Can someone please make decisions for me today? This midweek hump is SO BORING!.

Oh yah, if you need your clothes hemmed or tailored, give me a text, I'm not going to call back until after 5pm, that's when I get free outgoing minutes...

How to eat on a budget

We departed from Bobby as he got an invitation to a free concert with Darren at The Drake Underground.

The four of us pondered what to eat as we are on a budget.
As we walked along Queen Street tipsy of course, we thought of Korean  Barbeque Grill, all you can eat menu for $12.95.  Brilliant! we could fill up our empty stomachs and stay warm.

Ordering water with lemon helped rehydrate our famished bodies from a hard days work.
The food came quickly and we ate quickly.  About 3 servings of 7 different types of meat/seafood/poultery later, we were almost full.  Not before we called Nelson to bring us a ziplock in order for us to bring to our next venue.  Alas, Nelson had no ziplocks so we ate the rest of what was left.

What next? It's only 9pm on a Monday, who goes to sleep early on a Monday?.  Bart then called a friend as he thought there was a free skateboard dvd premiere up the street (drink tickets & light snacks?) .  Much to our dismay it is next week.  Next? Nelson offered us all guest list for 2 events with bottle service.  Ugh, really? Socializing? Pass.

We walked towards the Starbucks so Caroline could get a free newspaper (score!) and went our separate ways.

What am I going to do today?  Oh wait, I have a phone interview perfect, I should get out of bed and tell that person outside who is shoveling to stop, that noise is so annoying.

I think I'll hem my friend's pants so he can make me dinner or charge a few extra bucks so I have something for the AGO tomorrow.

Lenka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was rushing home to watch Gossip Girl still buzzing from drinking at the hostel and not eating when my friend called saying he scored two free tickets to some concert. An up and coming Aussie songstress named Lenka under Sony BMG. (www.myspace.com/lenkamusic)

I said I had an important appointment with Chuck at 8pm and the earliest I could of been picked up is 9........ arriving at The Drake Hotel I immediately felt thirsty for some beer. I saw my friend working the bar and told Darren "I'll get this round, you can get the next" securing myself another drink.

Laughing............... Drinking........... Texting........... my night went. Darren ordered another drink. Still Laughing.......... Drinking........... Texting when Darren said "I forgot my wallent"

Shhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt................

"How much is it?" I asked the waitress sheepishly trying to feel the coins in my pocket!

"Don't worry about it!" she said. She knew Darren...... had he been reading Unemployed & Fabulous????

Went to the Drake Underground to watch a bit of the show, downed another beer and went home in bed by 11pm

Woke up at 11am today...... what is to become of the day??? I have absolutely nothing planned for today......

Any suggestions?????

Any???

At the headquarters...

Free Lunch???

I was awoken at the crack of eleven.  How dare street salters interrupt my blissful moment in bed?  Have they nothing better to do?

Suddenly, overcome with a feeling of responsibility of how to fulfill my day, was I to watch the View?  What was on the food network (obviously best) today?  Lunch with my neighbor?  How was I to get lunch?  Is my dry cleaning done and who can pick it up after work?

Not wanting to listen to the five hags nag - weird, I know - I logged onto facebook.  It was then I noticed that a friend of mine posted "looking for people for a photo shoot at Circa, no pay but catered."

I rallied up my unemployed and fabulous troops who were either still sleeping, some sleepless, and some unshowered to see if they wanted to have free lunch.  We met out front of the club at 2pm.  Our stomachs were grumbling and our bodies a bit cold.

After a slow entrance,  we sat in lavish couches surrounded by beautiful people (us of course). Tediously getting our photos taken all we expected was our promised catered lunch.  Much to our dismay we found out that "catering" wasn't all cracked out to be what we expected. Normally, coca cola & orange juice would be perfect for our summer diets but it's winter and we are not slimming.  Naturally we need the heat in our bodies since ours got cut off at home.

Suddenly remembering the full, opened magnum of Stoli under my car seat and seeing the orange juice from catering...a light bulb went off in my head.  I gave an excuse that I had to run to an interview. As I stared at the door, the stylist asked "what for?"  I quickly said "Jr. Locksmith Apprentice" and dashed out of the room but not before snagging a tetra pack of OJ.

As we walked to the car and dug around under the car seat a feeling of anticipation came over us - "it must be happy hour somewhere else in the world?" Mixing drinks on the parking lot floor like our frienemies, Squeegy Kids, we journeyed to the unemployed and fabulous headquarters to take the edge off our hard working day.  A few games of billiards and mixed drinks later...

What was to become of the evening?  I'm still hungry...  I'm still drinking...

Unemployed & Fabulous
